Locked out of the car. We are 20 to 30 minutes away.

Call rather than type. Tell us the make, the model, roughly where you are, and whether the engine is running or anyone is inside.

What happens when we arrive

First, we check the car is yours

Photo ID, plus registration, title or insurance in your name. If the documents are locked inside, say so on the phone. We can usually open it and verify them then.

Then we open it

The normal outcome is no damage. The door is opened with tools made for that car's lock or its weather seal, not improvised ones.

We do not start with a slim jim. On a modern car the door cavity is full of wiring, airbag sensors and linkages, and a metal strip dragged through it causes exactly the damage you called us to avoid.

Things that change the job

  • The engine is running. Say it first. We treat it as urgent.
  • A child or an animal inside. Say it first, and call 911 as well. We will tell you so on the phone.
  • The key is visible on the seat. Good. It means a lockout, not a lost key.
  • The key is nowhere. That is a different job and a different price. See lost car keys.
  • A keypad on the door. Several Fords have one. The code may be retrievable, which is cheaper than anything else on this page.

Words you will hear

Non-destructive entryOpening the car without damaging it. The normal outcome.
Slim jimAn old strip tool. We do not use one on modern cars, and nor should anyone.
LockoutThe key exists and is inside. Cheaper and faster than a lost key.
All keys lostNo key anywhere. A new one has to be made and programmed.

Questions

Can you open any car?

Almost all of them. Some armored and some very recent European models have lock designs where the only route is the dealer. We tell you on the phone, not on arrival.

Will it set off the alarm?

Sometimes, briefly. It stops when the car is unlocked properly or the key is used.

I am in a parking garage. Can you still come?

Yes. Street, garage, driveway, curbside. Some private garages want management to authorize entry, so call them while we are on the way.

How much?

It depends on the vehicle and the hour, and you get the number before the van leaves. We do not publish a figure here because a figure here would be bait.

Need someone now?

A person answers, at any hour, in English or Spanish. If it is not urgent, we will hold a day and a time for you instead.

Or leave your details and we will call you.
