Service area

Twenty to thirty minutes, across the whole stretch.

Our base is in San Francisco. From there we run the length of the Peninsula, over the hill to the coast, down into the South Bay, and north across the bridge into Marin.

How the timing works

In an emergency we aim for 20 to 30 minutes. That holds across the area, not only in the city.

It holds because of where the vans are, not because of distance on a map. If the honest answer today is longer, you hear the longer number on the phone.

Not an emergency? A rekey after a move, spare keys, a master key system for an office. We would rather hold a day and a time for you. Say so when you call.

The cities with a page of their own

These are the places we actually work. Each page is about that city: its streets, its housing, the locks those buildings were built with, and the local law.

City and County

Locksmith in San Francisco

Nearly half the housing here predates 1940. Mortise locks, old jambs, and tunnel-entry houses with two doors to get past.

Santa Clara County

Locksmith in San Jose

Four decades of annexation in one city. The lock on the door tells you which decade the street joined.

Alameda County

Locksmith in Fremont

Five towns merged in 1956, and the city writes its own lock code: a one-inch deadbolt throw on new work.

San Mateo County

Locksmith in Daly City

Doelger's Westlake, and garage-under houses the City itself describes as living area above, garage below. Two locks before the front door.

San Mateo County

Locksmith in South San Francisco

Stricter than state law: a one-inch throw, a door 1¾ inches thick, 2½-inch screws into solid backing.

San Mateo County

Locksmith in San Mateo

A Building Security Code that spells the hardware out, down to the strike plate gauge and the size of a mail slot.

San Mateo County

Locksmith in Redwood City

Seventeen neighborhoods adopted by the City in 2017, about 46% of the housing built before 1960, owners and renters almost exactly 50-50.

Santa Clara County

Locksmith in Palo Alto

Around 2,700 Eichlers across 31 tracts. The back of the house is a glass wall and the sliding door is the real entrance.

Santa Clara County

Locksmith in Mountain View

The most renter-heavy city we cover. Intercom entries, shared doors and cluster mailboxes more often than front doors.

Santa Clara County

Locksmith in Sunnyvale

The 1950s is still its biggest decade of housing, and about 7% of homes are mobile homes, which take different hardware.

San Mateo County

Locksmith in San Bruno

Under SFO's approach, where renovation can trigger sound insulation, and where the fire and police departments answer lockout calls.

San Mateo County

Locksmith in Pacifica

Salt fog eats exterior hardware here. The city has required a deadbolt alongside the latch since 1988, and bans double-cylinder.

And the rest of it

We also work in Brisbane, Millbrae, Burlingame, Hillsborough, Foster City, Belmont, San Carlos, Atherton, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and Half Moon Bay, and across Marin in Sausalito, Mill Valley, Tiburon, Kentfield, San Anselmo and San Rafael.

No page for those. We have not done enough work there to write anything you could not get from a map, and a page that says nothing specific should not exist.

Call and ask. The answer is almost always yes.
