Vehicle

Car keys and lockouts, done at the curb.

The machines that cut and program car keys live in the van. That is the difference between an hour at the roadside and a tow to a dealer.

Words you will hear

TransponderA chip in the head of the key. Wrong chip, the car will not start.
Laser-cut keyA thicker blank with a wavy groove milled down the face. Different machine, higher cost.
Proximity keyA push-to-start fob. The key is the fob, which is why losing it costs what it costs.
ImmobilizerThe system in the car that decides which keys are allowed to start it.

What to tell us on the phone

Three facts decide the price and the time: the make, the model and the year, plus whether you still have any key at all.

With those we give you a real number on the phone. Without them, anyone quoting you is guessing, and the guess always goes up on arrival.

Why quotes vary so wildly

Three different things get called "a car key". The metal, the chip and the remote. A key can be all three at once, or just one.

An ordinary edge-cut key is a simple cut. A laser-cut key needs a different machine. A chip has to be enrolled in the immobilizer. A proximity key is the remote and the key in one.

A perfectly cut key with no chip will turn the lock and go nowhere.

What we will tell you honestly

There are vehicles we cannot do. A few recent models lock key programming behind the manufacturer's own online system, and for those the dealer is the only route.

If yours is one of them, we say so on the phone. Not after driving out and charging you for the trip.
